As an actor I'm rather hit and miss, I throw a lot out there, and some of it works and some of it doesn't. But this is a nice part.

The difference between my generation of actors and their generation is that they were bigger than life. We are not bigger than life

During a movie, chemistry is so important, and yet they just assume actors can fake their way through it. That doesn't always work.

Actors who perhaps are super-confident and have absolute belief in themselves I always admire, because I can't really be like that.

Michael Caine is a movie star, but he's also a great actor. I can't say that about every movie star. It's the concentration he has.

I guess George Clooney would be a wonderful silent actor, and Leonardo DiCaprio is such a wonderful actor he certainly could do it.

Most of the time, actors respond to the thing thats so far from who they are. We all want to play the serial killer and the ex-con.

As actors, we want to challenges ourselves and put ourselves in different situations to see how we react and deliver a performance.

[To reporter who telephoned with news of her Oscar:] If you are joking me, I will get up immediately and kill you wherever you are.

I would encourage you as a screenwriter to trust your story and don't make notes for the actors or don't make notes for the reader.

I'm pretty captivated by reality TV and I know that as an actor I probably shouldn't be saying that, but it's what I like to watch.

[On Lisa Kudrow:] She's like the best kind of jazz there is. You don't know what note she's going to hit and it's always a surprise.

For as long as I can remember, the thing that gave me a sense of wonderment and renewal... has always been the work of other actors.

There are dedicated actors and there are people now who only stay famous for putting on weight, losing it, then putting it on again.

The best actors, I think, have a childlike quality. They have a sort of an ability to lose themselves. There's still some silliness.

Working with big actors and realising that they were just normal people who've got an incredible talent was just a great experience.

What I wish more than anything is that I could start getting press about my work as an actor. That is what I do. I'm not a criminal.

I think that's all you can hope for as an actor when you read a script; that after the first thirty pages it has some meaning to it.

I've had a year out of work, more, and just toughed it out. There are those who think that all actors are overpaid. I beg to differ.

I think the most important thing for an actor is to stay current and stay relevant, and those are probably the hardest things to do.

I have always been a martial artist by choice, an actor by profession, but above all, am actualising myself to be an artist of life.

The first thing you should do with an actor is not sign a contract with him. Take him to dinner. And take him for a walk afterwards.

I don't wear a wig. I'd feel terrible onstage with a wig. I hate to be so 'Actors Studio'-ish, but I like to feel it's me out there.

I'd love to perform with other actors and act with actors, true actors. I would like to be in a movie and have full room for acting.

My stage fright gets worse at every performance. During the overture I hope for a theater fire, typhoon, revolution in the Pentagon.

I think it's very dangerous for an actor to take [shooting] too seriously because I think it could really damage you if you do that.

I think there are a lot more writers who are actors than you know; they just don't have roles on famous TV shows that you recognize.

Acting deals with very delicate emotions. It is not putting up a mask. Each time an actor acts he does not hide; he exposes himself.

The network shows tend to be run, in general, in my experience, by committee, and it's hard for actors and writers to do their jobs.

I just can't say enough about the actors having faith and trust in the writers and the writers having faith and trust in the actors.

I couldn't remember ever having seen a young man with such power, so many facets of expression, so much sheer invention as an actor.

As an actor, if you want to while shooting, you can run back to your trailer and take a nap. But you cannot do that while directing.

Writing has made me a better actor. Acting has made me a better writer. So why wouldn't directing make me a better actor and writer?

There's a lot of great movies that have won the Academy Award, and a lot of great movies that haven't. You just do the best you can.

As a professional actor, I don't have much choice about what I've gotten into. I tend to be cast in comedies and I'm fine with that.

I feel like I've finally made it as an actor. I've been doing this for years and you don't always make a movie that everybody likes.

You have to be pretty tough to be an actor, and you have to be pretty certain what you want. You can't waffle through this business.

Actors speak of things imaginary as if they were real, while you preachers too often speak of things real as if they were imaginary.

Spielberg gave us three takes before saying anything to us. Since then, I do that, three takes, to let the actors find their rhythm.

Unfortunately for the 'Tomorrow' series, I feel that for the actors that were in the first film, maybe our commitment to it is done.

Whenever an actor was going to die, I tried to help them understand not to take it personally. It wasn't about them. It's the story.

An actor definitely has to be in the past a well as the present; an actor must react to past experiences every minute, every second.

I've had some ambivalent feelings about being an actor. I don't know that I've ever been totally and completely comfortable with it.

I like doing stand-up and I love putting out TV specials. I'm not an actor though, so I don't really have much choice in the matter.

Since we've done that type of work [ voiceover], we know how isolating it can be, and we wanted to make the actors more comfortable.

As an actor, you're used to putting on characters, taking them off, becoming someone else, doing your research, and working on that.

You can't just tell actors, especially young ones, to 'act happy' and expect them to do it. They must in some essential way be happy.

An actor is supposed to be a sensitive instrument. Isaac Stern takes good care of his violin. What if everybody jumped on his violin?

I'm not sure I enjoyed doing [Gigi Does It]. I'm cool with just being an actor. If anything, I learned to be proud of being an actor.

I don't have any room in my heart for that character [Kevin McCallister ]. I like the actor [Macaulay Culkin], but the character, no.
