Apart from the desire to produce beautiful things, the leading passion of my life has been and is hatred of modern civilization.

More and more I think about the role of the arts, and as an artist, I think that it's important that I share the love and peace.

I've always said that I use my voice as an instrument. It was something I created myself, and I said, 'Have voice, will travel.'

What is a man? What is a woman? Why are men and women attracted to each other? Why do they desire each other? Love...what is it?

The teachers liked me. In grade school, they make you copy pictures from books. I think the first one was Robert Louis Stevenson.

Kaoru: Grownups are so tiresome. They fake their smiles all day long and they try to force us to do the same. It's no fun at all.

You can't really control what people think. You can't really worry about what they think, and attitude is really the one to have.

I hope that we can bridge the worlds of appearances and of insights, and thus rescue art from triviality, from 'sensation' alone.

Many artists, when they are creating art, are searching for a vehicle that can manifest a feeling they have inside of themselves.

The hardest thing is to make this little space for yourself where you can think and not get inundated with other stuff coming in.

I'd love kids. I'm obsessed with babies. Of course I've thought about baby names. A million times. I like Alfie for a little boy.

The most important part of vehicle maintenance is clean windows, so if you are broken down you will enjoy the beauty of the view.

For those who don't know what they are doing, painting is easy. For those who do know what they are doing, painting is difficult.

You can spill drinks on me, even spit on me. I'll just laugh about it. But If you dare to hurt my friends... I WON'T FORGIVE YOU!

I do think you can change the past and the present somehow. Even if something has already happened, it doesn't mean it's settled.

I always say to people if you want to see what Britain looks like, watch Gogglebox. It's brilliant and funny and warm and clever.

What I always say is that Japanese are like willow. We can be bent easily, but once you try to break us, it would not be so easy.

I think art teaches us how to feel, what our parameters can be, what sensations can be like; it makes you more engaged with life.

The epiphany for me was that I wasn't a writer, and I had to do something with these texts. I put them in the streets as posters.

If you're smart, you abandon the things that didn't work out so well, and you enlarge upon the things that seem to be successful.

No one has a right to occupy the privileged position all the time, so it should be contested. It should always be messy in there.

I'm peripheral in Colab's history because others were involved in media, filmmaking, and music, and I was always a studio artist.

My work life makes much less sense now than 20 years ago. It's Humpty-Dumpty-like in a way; I can't put the pieces back together.

Resignation is what kills people. Once they've rejected resignation, humans gain the privilege of making humanity their footpath.

If you flatter me, or if you look at me the right way, I will kill myself to please you. It's very painful to be an overachiever.

Versace designs have always been bootlegged. Now it's Versace bootlegging the bootleg for the bootleggers to bootleg the bootleg.

I'm interested in utopian communities of the past. Many of them didn't survive and I'm examining closely the reasons they failed.

Give your kids responsibility. Once outside, let them lead, who cares if you get lost; it might be the best trip you've ever had.

I do not know exactly why, but it seems to me that images do not belong to anybody but are instead there, at the disposal of all.

It's just that some things more important for this and less important for that, and this is true regardless the style of the art.

The type of work I do, which is often called 'Pop Surrealism,' is very separate from Gagosian and Mary Boone type of gallery art.

Art makes better humans, art is necessary in understanding the world and art makes people happy. Undeniably, art is not optional.

All the joys - animal and human - of a free life are mine. I have escaped everything that is artificial, conventional, customary.

I hate all electronic things that are supposed to help the human being. You don't smell, you don't hear, you don't touch anymore.

Artists... do not need the applause or condemnation of the critics, the ideas of other artists, or the demands of the collectors.

One usually understands the art of the past by applying the conventions of the present thus misunderstanding the art of the past.

I believe art should be an integral part of life. I try to give my work an almost magical energy that makes the viewer feel good.

Dispose of everything that was lost. There's no time to dream about something that won't come back. I must look forward. Forward.

What's really good about the word 'art' is that 'art' is a word like 'love,' or 'god,' or whatever. It transcends so many things.

Geosynchronous spacecraft will be among civilization's most enduring remnants, quietly circling Earth until the Earth is no more.

I came late to galleries. A lot of people my age started their careers younger, so I was spared seeing that side for a long time.

The arts are encroaching one upon another, and from a proper use of this encroachment will rise the art that is truly monumental.

When I perform I'm very extroverted and I wear my heart on my sleeve and some people don't like that. They're embarrassed for me.

I feel sometimes an American artist must feel, like a baseball player or something - a member of a team writing American history.

Late February days; and now, at last, Might you have thought that Winter's woe was past; So fair the sky was and so soft the air.

"Art is the ability to turn one's gaze to the world of oblivion." This is the way in which I understand art at fundamental level.

More and more, I think about the role of the arts, and as an artist, I think that it's important that I share the love and peace.

The reason I collaborate with Louis Vuitton is that Louis Vuitton is number one in the world, and I am honored to work with them.

All my life, I have been in love with the sky. Even when everything was falling apart around me, the sky was always there for me.

To have a relationship that is pure and passionate and beautiful - I think people are scared of having that now. Especially guys.
